TOC listed within TOC

Post by Pamb10 »

Why is my table of contents listed in the TOC.
I must be doing something fundamentally wrong here. Any pointers?

Thanks

Do you have a TOC topic in your TOC? That is needed for print output, but must be conditioned out for online output.

I do have a toc topic in the TOC, however, I am only generating this source for printed output. It is in Word where I am seeing the TOC listed in the TOC.

(I thought it was online output since you posted in the webhelp section)

You need to make a separate heading style/class for the TOC heading and make sure it has a TOC-depth of 0 so the TOC doesn't pick it up.

My current project has a TOC topic with a toc proxy and a H1 header. If I understand correectly you are saying to create a new H1 class and set the TOC depth to 0. If so, I did that but the TOC in the word target looks something like this:

Table of Contents

On the Web......
Table of Contents....
System Requirements....
etc....

Apply the new H1 class to the title/heading of the TOC topic (that contains the TOC proxy). The class can look exactly like the normal H1, but the TOC depth will be 0 so it will not be picked up in the TOC proxy.

i don't understand what is wrong with this other than "Table of Contents" is still included. Is everything else correct?
