Control Breadcrumbs font and color

Post by scooter262 »

I am having trouble changing the color and font for my breadcrumbs. I have set the parameters as I'd like in the MadCap | breadcrumbsProxy style:

color --> #008000 (green)
font-family --> Arial; sans-serif
font-size --> 10 pt

I have ensured the setting are in the non-print medium, and that the correct style sheet is used in the Help target that I generate. However, the breadcrumbs are still generated in the default font and color.

Has anyone else had trouble getting the breadcrumbs font to appear as they'd like? I have another project where the breadcrumbs do generate correctly in the font that I selected, and as far as I can tell, I've set all the same parameters.

Not sure why you'd put them in the non-print medium, but did you double-check that the help target is pointing to that medium instead of the default medium? Also, are you talking about the color in the breadcrumb for the current topic, or the color for the breadcrumb when it's a link pointing to the parent or grandparent topic? If you're talking about the link, then you need to modify the pseudo-classes for the breadcrumb hyperlink.

I have them in the default and non-print, duplicate entries, since I couldn't get it to work, I figured I'd try in both. Also, I'm talking only about the text color: the link color, which shows up for the book-level entries, appears in the usual blue (purple for visited pages) that you see for links.

Try changing the "a" style font color in your stylesheet. You'll need to change a > MCBreadcrumbsLink > (PseudoClasses) > link and visited styles. I keep mine the standard blue and purple because it shows the user they can click the section of the breadcrumb to return to that point in the TOC; but, that's my preference.

MadCap support actually solved the problem for me. Turns out Flare uses the span style to color the text. The default span style in my style sheet was set to black, and the font-family was set to Arial. Thus, black Arial was applied in the output, even though I had set my Breadcrumbs style differently.

I went back and set both color and font to "default" (not set). The breadcrumbs now generate in the font/color I selected in the MadCap | breadcrumbsProxy style.
