Cross-reference open topic - where the did it go?

Post by MHP »

We just upgraded to the latest version of Flare. It's nicer than before, except some unthinking person has removed the option to cross-reference an open topic. I'm flabbergasted!

In real documentation, especially inherited legacy stuff, or where the UI has evolved, the topic names don't always usefully identify the topic.

For example, one of these topics could describe the "New Employee" screen:
New Topic.htm
EnterPeople.htm
PeopleEntry.htm
EmployeeDetails
AddStaffInformation
Previously, I'd navigate to the topics using the TOC and have them open, so taking the drudgery out of cross referencing. (Even better would be to have a "topic in current TOC" option.)

What Flare has now might seem elegant to the developers, but as far as I'm concerned it's a black mark against the product.

You can insert a cross-reference to an open topic; right-click, then select Quick Cross-Reference > Open Documents.

How did you previously insert cross-references, and where was it removed from?
(Just I can't see any real difference from v6 to v7.)
