I either need advice on how to do this, or a chorus of voices telling me what a bad idea it will be, and why...
My software system comprises of over a thousand tables. On each table there are on average 20 fields.
Each field has its own 'helptext' (so we're talking tens of thousands of 'helptext' items'). At present, we have one XML file per table, which is then split up into text for each field.
We also have hundreds of user guides, training courses etc. In the spirit of single-sourcing, we want to keep all the 'helptext', but refer to it in the user guides, training etc (rather than repeat the text multiple times).
It seems that each item of 'helptext' (description of field) would need to be converted into a snippet, which is then referred to elsewhere.
This would mean we could have tens of thousands of snippets (albeit spread across different projects, depending on how we organise it all).
Q1 : Is this a really bad idea, a misuse of what snipppets are used for? If so, how should we do it?
Q2 : Would there be performance issues with having this many snippets? Is there a handy way we can organise them (group the tables into folders, and the snippets in a folder for each table)
Q3 : (most optomistic) is there any way of uploading snippets in bulk? I'd rather not do tens of thousands, one at a time...
