"Flare has stopped working..."

Post by StephenRL »

I'm running Flare 7.0.1 on a Windows 7 machine.
I recently inherited a Flare project from a co-worker who is no longer with the company.
I open the project (which has 72 topics, most of which are rather small) and can open 1 or 2 pages to edit before the program crashes.
I get the message "Madcap Flare Has Stopped Working: A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program."
No reason is given. No error code. Nothing. It's making it impossible to work. Has this happened to anyone else?

Thanks!

Is it just that one project? Does the same thing happen on a test project?

You might need to re-install the .NET framework.

I just re-installed .NET framework. It's .NET 4.
I opened the project, opened one topic, tried to close it, and boom... got the same "program has stopped working" message.

Huh. You could try reinstalling Flare. I think Microsoft released a bunch of patches this week so something there might be causing a problem. I used Flare briefly yesterday and I'm pretty sure the patches had been installed by that point and didn't run into any problems, but I wasn't doing a lot, just checking a couple of fields to answer a post and try something.

So maybe try a full reboot of the PC and if that doesn't work reinstall Flare and if that doesn't work, then I'd call MadCap Support.
