Why all heading levels are not shown in the ouput?
Why all heading levels are not shown in the ouput?
I am using outline TOC for my PDF target using the levels as shown below:
Getting Started (Level 1)
Application Overview (Level 2)
User Interface (Level 3)
Navigators (Level 4)
Beginners (Level 5)
Internediate (Level 5)
Advanced (Level 5)
In the generated PDF, the TOC only shows upto 'Application overview' level. All the entries below it are not displayed. I have checked 'Use TOC Depth for heading Levels' option in the Advanced tab of my target. I am using Mini TOC proxy for each Chapter.
Why all heading levls are not displayed in the TOC of the final output? I am using Flare 7.
Thanks

when you say "Level 1" or "Level 2" etc, do you mean H1 and H2, or the indented levels in the TOC?

What do you have set for mc-heading-level in your stylesheet for each heading style? If any are 0, they will not show up in the print TOC.
here is the flare help topic about this - http://webhelp.madcapsoftware.com/flare ... ding-level

Re: Why all heading levels are not shown in the ouput?
I have a similar issue - I have a simple topic with a few headings (standard heading tags) - heading 1 (H1), and heading 2(H2). At the top of the topic I'd like to insert a ToC (Insert -> Proxy -> Insert Mini-ToC proxy...).
The mc-heading-level is set as default, i.e. H1 = 1, H2 = 2, etc.
The Mini-ToC proxy's TOC depth is set to 2.
The target output is CHM (HTML Help).
When I generate my output does not display the ToC. What am I missing?

Re: Why all heading levels are not shown in the ouput?
The mini-TOC proxy only displays topics contained at a lower level than the topic containing the proxy. So you'd create a "book" in the main TOC and point that book to the topic that contains the mini-TOC proxy. Any topics you want referenced in the proxy are placed within that book so that they're a level down from the proxy.
Using the above TOC layout as an example, your TopicA would list TopicB, TopicC, and TopicD if the proxy were set to 1 level deep, and would also include TopicE and TopicF if set to 2 levels deep.
Code: Select all
Book1 --> points to TopicA containing proxy
- TopicB
- TopicC
- Book2 --> points to TopicD
- TopicE
- TopicFLisa

Hi Lisa,
I understand the usage of mini-ToC in this case. However, I'd like to use the an automated ToC at the top of my topic, listing the headings a by a defined level of depth. Is there a method how to do it? I couldn't find anything in the forums or the help topics. The output is CHM file.

I think it is important to say that the above posts were for print outputs, and in print outputs the TOC is based on the heading levels in the topics.
However, in help outputs, the TOC is not generated from heading levels; it will use the structure you create in the TOC file.
To see this working, create some new topics (you need more than one), then add them to your TOC so that they're located inside your main topic; so you have something like this:
- Topic 1 (book icon)
--- Topic 2
--- Topic 3
In this example, Topic 1 will have a mini-TOC with links to Topic 2 & 3.
Note also that mini-TOCs will not display if they contain links that point to the parent/book topic; e.g. do not use structures like this:
- Topic 1 (book icon)
--- Topic 1 bookmark #1
--- Topic 1 bookmark #2

No, you can't do this with the main TOC proxy, in either print or online.Sartor wrote:I understand the usage of mini-ToC in this case. Dave Lee, I think Sartor is trying to do something that I think you've done before. I think it was you. You had a mini-TOC or maybe related topics in a DIV floating on the right side at the top of the topic listing the items discussed in that topic. I think he's trying to do something similar to that.

Re: Why all heading levels are not shown in the ouput?
Looks like I have to give my standard answer: javascript.
You insert a javascript (js) into the topic, the template or the masterpage - depends on how universal you wanna get.
The js is triggered "onload" of the document.
It finds the h1 and h2 objects of the document, adds a bookmark to each and writes links to those bookmarks into a div that you make floating via css ...
