I've just now installed the 7.1 update for Flare and immediately noticed that my headers in page layouts no longer display.
If I edit the page layout document my header looks like a filled grey box, rather than the SVG logo and header text that used to appear. Hitting F2 to edit the header displays the content as expected, but it doesn't show up in the editor for the topics, the pagelayouts or - most crucially - in the built output.
Anyone got any ideas?

If you create a new page layout in v7.1 and add the content to the header, does it appear correctly then?

Re: Page layouts broken in v7.1
No. For the record, I tried all the following obvious things:
Creating a new PageLayout
Copying the XML from the plaintext view of an existing one into another new one
Editing the content of the headers in existing ones
Removing content completely, saving, then readding
Bringing in a PageLayout from another project to overwrite the existing one
Tried tweaking a few of the XML properties in the plaintext view as well, just in case there was some weirdness about dimensions or whatever.
Had a look in the menus just in case there was a new "Break the headers in your pagelayouts" option that had been automatically selected, but I couldn't find that either.
Reinstalling v7 returns the headers to their former glory, and I'll be sticking with it until there's a v7.2 that specifically fixes this issue (and hopefully doesn't break anything else). This is a deal breaker for me as I'm currently working only with PDF outputs. A shame I can't take advantage of the patch due to a fairly glaring aesthetic problem.

Re: Page layouts broken in v7.1
I just rebuilt one of my projects and the headers and footers appear fine. The difference is that my headers and footers contain only plain text and variables. It might be your SVG file that's causing a problem. MadCap might have changed how it deals with SVG files because I believe there was some other issue with that type of file. You probably don't want to reinstall v7.1, but if you have some free time, perhaps you could reinstall it, temporarily remove the SVG image from the header and rebuild to see if it works correctly. If it does, then you've narrowed down the problem to that specific type of problem. Doesn't take care of your issue since you probably want the SVG image in the header, but it will narrow down what's causing the bug so MadCap can fix it.

Re: Page layouts broken in v7.1
I am having the same problem, but I only have text in my headers. My headers are something like:
CompanyName
__________________________________ (that's just a long line of underscores)
PageNumber - ChapterName
I just took the line out, recompiled, and my headers are back. Maybe that will help track down the source of this bug.
I'm sure there is a better way to insert a horizontal line on a page, but as a noob I found the quick-and-dirty way to accomplish my goal until I get better versed in Flare. So, can somebody tell me how to insert a horizontal line in the page?

Re: Page layouts broken in v7.1
You can either use the <hr /> tag or create a custom class for a tag (paragraph, div, etc.) and specify a bottom margin. You have more flexibility in the appearance of the line if you use the bottom border method.spinsterweaver wrote:So, can somebody tell me how to insert a horizontal line in the page?

Thanks, Lisa. That worked perfectly.

So your headers are re-appearing in the generated output? If they are, make sure you submit a bug report to MadCap at http://www.madcapsoftware.com/bugs/submit.aspx and explain what the problem was and how it was resolved. I don't know if your problem is the same as the other person who was using an SVG image. I guess it depends on how you created the line originally. Did you use an image to simulate that line or did you use the hr tag?
