Hi all,
I have a variety of screen shots in my project (which has both PDF and Web outputs). When I view the images in my PDF output, they look just as I expect. When I view the same images in the web output (which I've applied the thumbnail effect to) they look terrible. They appear to be cinched from side to side. Aside from applying my LargeImages style to the images so that I can turn them into thumbnails, I haven't done anything to the web help pics. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
The img style:
img.LargeImages
{
mc-thumbnail: hover;
}
Sample PDF output:
Sample WebHelp output:
Many thanks,

Re: Image Distortion in Web Output
what are the dpi and pixel (or inch) size of your image? does it happen to all images?

Hi Laura,
Sorry for the delayed response. I never got a notification that you responded to this and I've been busy with other stuff.
All of the images are 96 DPI and they are all around 1101x882 px. All of my images appear skewed in the web output.
Thanks,

Re: Image Distortion in Web Output
in your webhelp target, is the "Generate resized copies of scaled images" checkbox checked? If so, I'd try unchecking it and regenerating the output to see if might be the problem.

techwriter31,
Unfortunately, your suggestion did not solve the problem.
Thank you for suggesting anyway.

Re: Image Distortion in Web Output
Are there any sizing constraints applied to the img properties on your stylesheet?
I'd be checking for anything relating to images, particularly relating to width or the media you use for web help.

Hi Jennifer,
I suppose that you are aware of the fact that you can set the picture to automatic?
I do that a lot. Especially when I create webtraining.
First I resize the picture to a size I roughly want to have (the handle at the bottom-right)
Then I edit the picture and most of the times I set the width to e.g. 800 or 1000 pixels, and the height automatic.
That works great. I never do something with the captured picture. I leave as it is.

Re: Image Distortion in Web Output
Wil,
Thanks for posting. I'd almost given up on this issue, and I never saw Steve's post until I saw yours today.
Update: Steve, after I didn't get a solution from this forum, I logged a support case. The tech support rep told me that this was happening because of an existing bug because I was using "Hover" and setting a max width and height. I followed the instructions for a workaround, but that didn't actually work either. So, now I'm waiting to hear back about my workaround not working...
Will: Setting the width and leaving the height set to "automatic" is what MadCap tech support recommended, but my images are still appearing smooshed. I must have done something else wrong for the images to appear smooshed and terrible regardless of the height and width settings.
Thank you,
