Combining Multiple Projects

I have about 2 dozen projects that I need to combine into one big project. What's the best way to go about this...global link, merging...?

How do I get started?

How big are the individuals projects?
Do you want to keep them in separate project files (with 1 big output), or make 1 project going forward? Merging projects would keep them separate until you generate. If you want 1 project going forward (and don't mind "starting over"), you can just cut/paste all of the topics in Windows Explorer and put them into one Content folder of a new project. You would break any links you have made between topics, though.

Hey, Laura...Some of my projects are small (only 1-2 pages), while others are up to 100 pages. I want to create a fully searchable "documentation library" for our customers.

It sounds like merging is the way to go for me. I've fumbled my way through the forums and the online help, and I can't quite get started.

Do you have suggestions?

I don't merge projects myself, but here is the page from the help that i think other people use.

i think this only works if you are using the same target type in each project (all webhelp, all htmlhelp, etc).

Is there a way to merge projects into MS Word output?
I have a smaller project describing a proprietary expression language which relates to several product guides. I inserted the smaller project (and specified it MS Word target) as a TOC entry to a parent user guide project, yet when building ms word output for the parent project an Errors message is displayed: File cannot be generated to MsWord ouput.
is there any walkaround for this issue?
