Relationship Tables

Post by tulip »

Hi guys,

I did all the steps to create a relationship table, but in the final output it is not showing up. Does anyone know what could be the problem?
The steps I did are like this:

Creating a relationship table
Inserting Relationship table into topics
Associating relationship tables with targets

Earlier, once I was able to see it in the output. It looked like the default format and I had tried changing the heading and the style. Since, then whatever I do the relationship table is not showing up.

:(

What type of output are you building?

I just tested it and it worked for me. In the HTML Help target, is there a checkmark next to the relationship table name? Just seeing the table name in the screen isn't enough -- it needs to be enabled so that it's included in the output.

Hi Lisa,

The check mark is selected in the Primary Target. I have no other targets.

When I read the code after inserting the proxy it only says this:
<h1>xxxxxxxxxxx</h1>
<p>xxxxxxxxxxx</p>
<MadCap:relationshipsProxy />
<h2>xxxxxxxxxx</h2>
I have a feeling that the code should be showing more details. Hope this helps to decipher what is wrong. Thanks for your help as always.

Nope, that's all you'll ever see in the code behind in the authoring environment for that proxy and any other proxies. It's not until you build the output that the proxy is converted into the appropriate information.

Try this, create a WebHelp target, associate the relationship table to it, then build that output. See if the relationship table shows up in that output. If it does, then the problem is with the HTML Help target or perhaps you have a condition tag excluding the relationship table. If it doesn't show up, then something is wrong with the relationship table itself. You might also want to view the source code of the topic containing the relationship table in the browser to see what styles are associated with the relationship table and double-check that you don't have one of those styles set to hidden or perhaps have a text color that matches the background color (in which case if you hover over the area where the relationship table should appear, you should see the icon change to one that indicates there's a link present).

Hi Lisa,

Whatever be the output, my relationship table remains hidden. The styles are not hidden. I made another RL table to see if the trouble is with the table itself, but apparently not. It just does not show in the output or preview.

Very sadly,

Does it work in a test project?

Hi Lisa,

I was doing a basic mistake of not including the topic I am putting the relationship proxy in the relationship table. It worked now. :D

Thanks for trying to help. Appreciate it a lot.
