Conditional filters in built HTML Help

Post by hoss »

I have been wondering if something is possible...

We have a very large help system that covers many product items. Some of the content applies to all products, some only to one product and, variations in between.
I could publish many output versions based on conditional tags in the topics, but that does not fit with our master product support structure.
So... I was wondering if conditions could be applied by the user after build. By some filter selection in the HTML help?
i.e. the user ticks a filter on the product he is interested in, and only those topics (and the universal ones) are shown in the help based on the conditions i have defined for that...

Any way to do this?

it looks like you can do this in search by using filters - http://webhelp.madcapsoftware.com/flare ... |filtering
the flare help has filters associated with it. i don't think you can filter a TOC though.

??? And what about this?

I don't know any mechanism that would do anything like that in a .chm file apart from "manually" ... So you either apply conditions or you make a book in the TOC for each product. You could also build different help files for products and if necessary link to topics in other help files inside a chm file. The user wouldn't even have to notice, because it's usually opened in the same help window - you will have to insert a shortcut link to have it opening in a separate help window.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
