Hi all,
When I publish my webhelp from C:\ to a network directory I get a differnt view of the breadcrumbs. I haven't got MOTW set in my target, and this error seems to only be happening in IE, it displays fine in FF.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Nick

what difference are seeing? the top padding and the right margin of the heading style? that may just be differences in browsers.
And yes, a network project viewed in IE without enabling MOTW may have some issues (with the security pop-ups) that don't show up in FF.

Also, one or both of the browsers may be viewing a cached view of the stylesheet from before you modified the breadcrumbs styles or any other styles that may affect it. Delete the history in both browsers and reload the help and see if they're still not matching up.

Hi,
Yes the problem is between the top and right margin. The screenshot is one of IE8 on my local drive and IE8 viewing the same content on the network directory.
To me there shouldnt be any difference. I only have to accept the IE warning when viewing it from my local, but this shouldnt cause a problem with styles surely? I'm looking over by Body and HTML tags to see if there are any settings tucked away in there that might be playing trick with it, but I would expect to see the same problem regardless of where the content is sitting - especially if Im using the same browser...

I'd mark up such subtle differences to different browsers displaying HTML differently.

When you say "network directory", are you talking about a web server or a file server? If it's a web server, then make sure MOTW isn't enabled on the output running on that server, because MOTW can have some odd effects to the output when running on web servers and viewed in IE, although I think its usual effect is to not display anything in the panes.nickatwork wrote:The screenshot is one of IE8 on my local drive and IE8 viewing the same content on the network directory... Regardless of whether it's a web server or a file server, try viewing the output on a different computer. So copy the local output to another computer and use that same computer to access the network version, too. If they both appear fine, then the problem could be something in your browser setting. If they still have the same display problem, try putting the network version on an entirely different server to rule out something on the network drive that's causing the problem.

Not something I've come across before. This is a shot in the dark, but I know IE will render pages differently if it's in Compatibility View mode, but I don't know enough about it to know if the location/security zone can affect the mode it runs in. (I know you can set it for individual sites, or the intranet.)

Hi all,
Problem solved. Found a little spacing setting that was sitting in the body tag for the medium. Still puzzled why it would show on the published version and not my local one. Anyways, problem solved. Thanks.
