Titles in TOC do not update when titles in topics change

Hi,
I feel like I'm missing something pretty basic: When I retitle a topic (i.e., change the head1 in a topic), the topic title in the TOC editor does not update.

I see that there is a setting to use TOC titles as the title for the topic in the output (Auto-set title of linked file), but I'd like to see my topic titles reflected in the TOC. Is there a preference or setting that will help?

The TOC title only uses the H1 setting when you originally create the TOC item. It will not update again automatically. it is just the way Flare is. you can submit a feature request here - https://www.madcapsoftware.com/bugs/submit.aspx
i'm sure other people have requested the feature too since people ask about this all the time. more requests mean a higher chance it will change.

I think the original design is that you have more "real estate" in your topics for longer headers, but you don't have as much space in the TOC pane of the generated output. So Flare gives you the option to modify your TOC entry so that you can shorten it, if necessary.

Hopefully MadCap's solution to the request will be to put an option in the topic's or TOC entry's Properties screen that's enabled by default and that does the syncing, and if you need to turn it off for one particular entry, then you disable it for just that entry. That would give us the greatest flexibility.
