translated terms in HTML output

This forum is for all Flare issues related to the Microsoft HTML Help target.
This target produces "CHM" files in the output.

translated terms in HTML output

Post by LivW »

Hello,
I have a flare project that was translated into Russian using Lingo. When I create an HTML output, it's all in Russian except for the" Contents," "Search" and "Favorites" tabs. I have changed the project target language and the language in the HTML 's target editor language, but I see no change. I opened the skin in notepad++ just to see if I could even find the word "contents" and change it there but it was not in the file, so I'm thinking it's not the skin. I'm not sure if this is a Flare issue or a Lingo issue. I'm really at a loss, any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Liv

Thanks Laura, I appreciate your response, but those relate to web help. You can go under the styles tab and set up a lot for the web help, but the HTML is not as customizable. Aside from adding buttons and basic layout, there doesn't seem to be much you can change.

Sorry, this may be a stupid question but are you testing this on your PC? Have you checked what the compiled help files looks like on a PC with a Russian operating system?

We compile translated help files regularly and when we view the compiled version on a PC with an English operating system the content is displayed in the translated version, but things such as the navigation tabs (Contents, Search, Index) or the tooltip for the 'Print' or 'Back' icon in the toolbar display in English. Open the same file on a PC with the corresponding operating sytem (italian CHM on Italian operating system etc) and they display in the correct language (courtesy of Microsoft, I believe).

Not sure whether this works for Russian, just thought it may be worth a try (apologies if you have already tried that).

Thanks, Tina. That never would have occurred to me! I'll send it to our guy in Russia and test that out.
