Tidying up Styles - can't delete one

Post by lizat »

Dear Madcaps,

I have been using an old stylesheet as a basis for my new project. I am now ready to tidy this up and remove all the unwanted styles. I have several P.TOC classes. I think they were invented previously for a print output, and I may use them again but for now I would like to remove them. However when attempting delete I get this error:
  • "The Style p.TOC9 cannot be removed since it is inherited and not defined in this stylesheet"
I have looked to find out where it might be linked to but I can't find a reference in the style definition. So my questions are
  1. how can I find out what the linked stylesheet is?
  2. why can't I delete the class?
thank you...................... liz

the p.TOC styles are used to make the print TOCs, and i think they are inherited from the MadCap stylesheet (that can only be edited post-processing, and would have to be done every time). if you didn't make any changes to it from the defaults, there shouldn't be a need to delete it. are you deleting so the styles don't show up in your Style window?

on a side note, you won't be able to delete styles from individual mediums if they were created at the default medium level.

Was just trying to reduce the number of styles and yes remove from side window... perhaps there's another way. It would be very nice to hace a toolbar or menu of favorite styles.

You can disable styles (from showing up in the Style window) without having to delete them. see this - http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewto ... f=6&t=9239
