I have about six separate MadCap Flare projects that I would like to merge together in order to build one WebHelp page. When I import my projects into one document I am having trouble organizing them in the "Content Explorer". The documents all go into the Content folder but are not separated by which project they have originally come from. While I want one cohesive document, I also want to separate the original documents by putting them into individual folders.
I am running into issues when I create new folders in the Content Explorer and then manually add the topics in each folder. When I finally go to build my WebHelp pages, the documents not only show up in the new folders that I have created, but they also re-appear underneath the new folders in the Content Explorer and then again under my Content Folder in Windows.
Am I doing something wrong? Please Help!!

Re: Global Project Import- Extra Files/Unorganized
For this issue, I have a separate import project that i only use for importing 1 document at a time. when it imports, it goes to the "new import" folder, and then i manually move the folder from the import project to the actual/live project using Windows Explorer (renaming it to the appropriate title). Then I import another document in the import project, and move it again. here is the topic where i explain all my import woes and solutions - http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewto ... =5&t=10598Redskins wrote:I have about six separate MadCap Flare projects that I would like to merge together in order to build one WebHelp page. have you tried refreshing the content explorer? there is a button for that in its toolbar. what version of flare/windows are you using? on my home computer with windows 7, sometimes i have a refresh problem that pressing f5 fixes.Redskins wrote:I am running into issues when I create new folders in the Content Explorer and then manually add the topics in each folder. I suggest that you organize the Content Explorer of the individual projects, rather than try to move things, post import, in the big project.Redskins wrote:I have about six separate MadCap Flare projects that I would like to merge together in order to build one WebHelp page. For instance, say I have a Red project, Green project, Blue project, and Rainbow project. Say that for the Rainbow project I will be importing Flare content from the other three projects and I'd like to be able to clearly distinguish, when working in Rainbow, what came from where.
In that case, I customize the Content Explorer of each project. For instance, in the Red project's Content Explorer, I use the following folder structure:
Content
----Red_Content
--------Red_Images
--------Red_Resources
--------Red_Topics
(SIDEBAR: I like images to be in their own folder at the same level as Resources and Topics, rather than be hidden within Resources, where Flare puts the Images folder by default.)
I set up similar folder structures for Green, Blue, and Rainbow.
Later, when I import content into Rainbow from the other projects, I end up with a structure in Rainbow's Content Explorer that looks like the following. Everything is nicely segregated, and there is no need to move anything from one folder to another. (In some cases, some folders might not be created by the import, depending on what was imported. For instance, if no images were imported from the Red project, there will be no Red_Images folder.)
Content
----Red_Content
--------Red_Images
--------Red_Resources
--------Red_Topics
----Green_Content
--------Green_Images
--------Green_Resources
--------Green_Topics
----Blue_Content
--------Blue_Images
--------Blue_Resources
--------Blue_Topics
----Rainbow_Content
--------Rainbow_Images
--------Rainbow_Resources
--------Rainbow_Topics
I hope this gives you some ideas.

Re: Global Project Import- Extra Files/Unorganized
I misread your original post and my comment was concerning importing Word documents to create 1 final project, not importing projects into another project. Sorry.

Then again, you might have understood accurately and I've misunderstood the problem!lacastle wrote:I misread your original post and my comment was concerning importing Word documents to create 1 final project, not importing projects into another project. Sorry.
