PDF output with hotspots

Post by Serena_Tan »

Hi,

Wondering if madcap has this functionality. Basically my project has 2 types of targets, chm (webhelp) and pdf (printed). One of the topics includes the image of the product, with each product button numbered. Each number is then made a hotspot and linked to their own topic.

When I generate the output, the chm file works fine. When a user clicks on a number (hotspot), the appropriate topic is displayed in a floating window.
I'm unable to create the same effect for the PDF output however. I would like to know if madcap can generate this type of interactive PDF and if so, how do I go about doing it.

All help appreciated! :)

Have you seen PDFs work like this before? I don't think Flare can do it, though.

InDesign and Fireworks are able to produce interactive PDFs (at least according to their intro pages). But these are Adobe's own products. It's not a common function I believe.. rarely do PDFs need to be interactive anyway so I wasn't holding much hope on madcap supporting it.

Thanks though. :)

You could submit a feature request at http://www.madcapsoftware.com/bugs/submit.aspx, in case it is something that can be done.

If you have Acrobat Pro, you can open the PDF there and add the hotspots using the Link tool.
