Will Flare ever eschew framesets?
Will Flare ever eschew framesets?
Either get rid of them or offer a frameset-less target? My IT department hates supporting me due to Flare's use of framesets. In short, there a lot of technologies our backend supports that can't be deployed on my Flare site due its use of framesets.

Given that this is a user-to-user forum, it's not likely that anyone here can help you out (although I may be wrong!). I suggest you talk directly with someone at MadCap and/or submit an enhancement request at https://www.madcapsoftware.com/bugs/submit.aspx.

Re: Will Flare ever eschew framesets?
As long as framesets are supported by a current HTML standard I don't see a need to get rid of them. As far as I can tell HTML5 supports frames as well. So as long as systems adhere to the standard using frames is not a problem.

The WebHelp mobile target doesn't use frames; have you looked at that?
Re: Will Flare ever eschew framesets?
Last year I had a quick look at the search of a Webhelp and it seems to be pretty bad (compared to other javascript searches I know). That could make people want insert their own search or, if the help is online, use a google search. That sort of search or the displaying of results are at least made more complicated if not impossible by the use of frames.
But rumour has it that MC's looking at or even working on it ...

I suppose the new Flare 8 (HTML5 target) solves my frames dilemma, although I haven't used it yet to find out if it'll work.i-tietz wrote:Last year I had a quick look at the search of a Webhelp and it seems to be pretty bad (compared to other javascript searches I know).
