TOC + No Title Tags

Post by rmdavidson »

I found something in the topic WebHelp search returns wrong capitalization (http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewto ... d=a#p77757), but haven't found quite what I am looking for...

There are no title tags in my Topics, so I've been adding them as I go because my TOC is using the File Name as it's Label otherwise. Titles with underscores and words run together are not pretty. It seems to be the default to not have a title tag from what I've read. Is there any reason to not have title tags in Flare?

If the TOC entries are showing filenames, then it sounds if you don't have anything in those topics set as headings (h1, h2, etc., but not "pseudo" headings such as "p.Heading1"). By default, Flare will use the first heading it finds in a topic as the TOC entry. Having topics without headings will likely cause other kinds of unexpected results in generated output also. You may not need to use titles at all so long as you do have headings defined.

(Sorry to be so short; it's the end of my workday and I thought I'd toss this out quickly. Maybe others can chime in.)

Nita,

Actually, I do have <h1> tags at the top of the topic. Some topics have <h2> tags, but mostly it is just the <h1> at the top. Whenever I Add Topic from a template (which I'm doing with everything at the moment) it will use whatever I enter as the file name as the H1 at the top of the topic then I have to change it in the topic and add the title tag. Either way, when I drag the topic into the TOC it uses the file name and not the header so I've been adding a title tag to avoid having to edit the Label in the TOC.
