HTML output (webhelp) no skin needed

Post by pviscogl »

I have a project where I only need HTML files. No skin, no CSS, nothing. My client will incorporate the generated HTML files in its equipment and does not want anything more.
Now, when I generate my webhelp target, I have the following line inserted in each HTML file:
<script src="../../SkinSupport/MadCapAll.js" type="text/javascript">

Is there a way do not have this line in each HTML files?
Thank you.

You can't remove the link from within Flare; also as it contains javascript to support WebHelp, if you simply remove it you may find some things stop working.

If WebHelp isn't what you want, and you want to produce your own custom HTML-based output, then I would have a look at the XHTML book target type. You could generate it in this XHTML target type, then use a transform (XLST) to produce your HTML.

You have to have a skin. But you can strip it down by kicking everything out ...

You don't need a stylesheet, but you might as well use the one of your client, because then you can assign his classes and styles to the elements - might save him time and makes it look more authentic for you.

Dave, I have looked at the XHTML target type which, form what I understand, generate a single XHTML file. I have looked at the generated file and all my topics now there. You suggest to use a transfor XLST to produce my HTML. I was not familiare with XLST. by reading on the web, I now understand what it does. Do you have any 'tool' to recommend to perform this task?
Thanks again.

toolbar, search, glossary,index, ... although I think you probably cannot kick the TOC out ... maybe in the next Flare version (supposed to come out this spring)

I'm afraid that I don't have a lot of experience with XSLT. I looked into it a few years ago and ran through some basic examples, but haven't used transforms for a 'real' project or with Flare. My understanding of the XHTML target in Flare is that you can take this output and use a XSL transform to convert it into a format that you want.

One other possibility just crossed my mind, if you were looking at modifying the WebHelp. The WebHelp Mobile target generates a simpler HTML output with no frames, and also has two versions of the output, Basic and Advanced. The Basic version doesn't include any javascript (i.e. no js files). I think the topic files will include a toolbar, but on the whole I think that this output may be easier to 'customise' than the regular WebHelp.

XSLT is very useful once you've got the hang of it, but if you've no experience of programming, there is quite a learning curve. That was my experience, anyway (and I had a *little* programming experience). Even programmers I know have had a hard time getting their heads round it. It's kind of like a programming language but it is neither procedural nor object-oriented.
