I am noticing an inconsistency in the Image Map context menu option in Flare 7.2
All of our images I have tried it on are png format. When I right-click an image in a topic, the Image Map option is greyed out most of the time.
I have only found one image so far this afternoon where the option is actually available.

Does anyone know why this might be happening?

Do you float your images? I wonder if it automatically grays out the option if images are floating, since it can't accurately link an image map to a floated image, given that the image's position is dependent on the width of the browser window.

Floating an image shouldn't affect the image map; I've used that before.

There are few issues with using image maps; such as if you resize/scale the image, the map isn't resized too; or when using thumbnails the image map won't work (at least for popup and hover). However, I can't remember seeing the image map option unavailable.

Guess it was the rescale/resize issue I was thinking of. I haven't tried image maps in a couple of versions.

No, the image isn't floated. It is simply inserted with the following example code:

<p> <img src="../images/module_families.png" /> </p>

I still can't get the Image Map right click context option, so am going to log a support case.

Was this issue ever resolved? I'm having the same problem. I've tried everything suggested in the posts and they don't solve the problem.

I discovered that our CSS developers had inadvertently disabled the "Area" and "Map" elements in the stylesheet we use for authoring.

Once I had these two elements removed from the disabled styles section of the CSS (See code below), the Image Map option was available again.

Here was the response I received from MadCap support who found the answer for me:

The Author.css file you're using in this project has both the "Area", and "Map" elements disabled in the stylesheet. These need to be enabled for you to be able to apply an image map to an image in a topic.

- Open your Stylesheet in the internal text editor of Flare to re-enable these styles (rightclick on your author.css file in the Content Explorer, and select "Open With Internal Text Editor").

- Navigate to the bottom of your stylesheet, and deleted the styles listed from the bottom group of disabled styles.

Once you've removed "Area", and "Map" from the disabled styles list, I was able use image maps as expected in your project.

That did it! Who knew?
