Activation issues

Post by todd.richardson »

Hello,

I installed Flare 8 and activated it with a valid key (I received activation confirmation). However, when I closed and reopened Flare 8, a message appeared saying "Unable to activate Flare 8 on this machine". The Activation window then appeared again, with my key auto-entered, and I was forced to walk through the process again. This now happens every time I close and attempt to reopen Flare 8. Has anyone else experienced this?

I was forced to enter my product key twice, but after that, I was able to launch without being prompted to enter the key again.

We are working on a fix for this.

In the email address field, use all lowercase characters and you should be fine.

I've seen another strange one with the Flare 8 activation (even after the update).

I have Flare installed on my laptop and in one of my two VM environments on my home computer. So, that's the legal limit. If I deactivate the one on the one VM environment, then install Flare in my other VM environment and try to activate it, Flare states that I have too many activations in my domain. It seems I can deactivate and reactive the one license on my Windows 7 VM, but not on my Windows XP VM. How odd. with FrameMaker, I can deactivate the product on one VM and active the the other one, then swap them as needed for testing. Very strange.

Our problem is our proxy. We cannot activate Flare 8 via internet, because Flare tells us that a proxy authentification is required - but we're not prompted for it, but a message pops up, stating that as a reason for cancelling the process ...

Calling the US for activating our licenses is not really an option ...

That's another example of developers not thinking about any other settings and circumstances than their own ...

You don't have to ring the US, just email them: CustomerService@MadCapSoftware.com

Because of the time difference? Cost is hardly a reason, with the suitable call-by-call provider you pay less than a Euro cent per minute calling the US. That's cheaper than calling within Germany.

call-by-call? I don't even know whether I can enter an "001", or whether we have a flatrate or whether we have a contract that allows call-by-call ... and I wouldn't know who to ask, because I don't usually use the phone - I don't have business contacts outside the company, since I'm not a sales or support person, but a technical editor who's producing digital documentation only ...

Apart from that: Not everybody's ability to understand am. English and to speak whatever English is good enough for that task.

Is that yet another proof of the fact that there's people out there who think everybody is in their situation? Are you trying to tell me, it's not just developers who are that way?

Well use email then.

I've been getting phone registration codes by email for Flare v2 to v7; they're usually sent back the same day (their day).

Inge - your English is perfectly fine. My assumption may have been that you'd place the call and that may have been wrong. => Use Dave's suggestion with email.

Hi guys,

we have Cisco Ironport in place and it's not quiet possible for us to lower the rights to activate MadPak Suite since we're a Gov agency. We tried proxy and works only for components where proxy server option is available. Capture and Lingo don't allow that option. Please advise?

with the manual activation; once an activation code is received via email, don't you need internet connection for further updates and upgrades?
