Flare 8: Dual monitors and UI being 'lost'

Post by nickatwork »

Hi all,
Its a wierd thing to describe in a topic title. and the screenshot below will show it best. I'm not sure whats going on here and I wonder if its to do with using dual monitors, or if perhaps its my video drivers (I'm on to IT about getting them updated)

Wondering if anyone else has noticed this with Flare 8?
I did used to get a similar problem in Flare 7, but it would only occur on the topic tabs when I had a few topics open and then randomly the tabs would basically use their graphic or UI elements.

The only part of this screenshot that I have changed is the name, definition and comments of the variables. The black is residual colour from my machines lock screen. I could drag an IE window over it and it would get all the grey etc you can see in the other screen shot.

Really annoying as this happens every hour or so and I have to close flare to get rid of it, a resize does not fix the issue.

Anyone else got the same thing?

I use dual monitors (have for the last 4-5 years) and haven't experienced any issues.

From the look of it I'd guess the system is running low on resources. Do you have enough RAM for the apps you are running?

I came across this once before and it was a driver issue. In my case going back to an older version of the driver 'fixed' it. Graphics drivers can have quite a bit of impact. At work I upgraded the driver and then Outlook crashed even more than it usually does. Here as well, going back to the old version was the solution. It's worth a try if nothing else helps.

I'm running dual monitors now and haven't had that issue. I would have to agree with the RamonS, from what I've seen before this is usually caused by a driver issue. It could be that your driver just updated or it just needs updated in general. What kind of computer is this? Is it older, maybe it is a resource issue where you need more RAM. The quickest and cheapest thing to try is updating the video driver. If that doesn't work let us know and we'll try to figure something else out.

I see the same issue. It happens when I have a lot of windows open and I lock the computer to go away from my desk. Upon awakening, Flare's content windows appear but all menus/ribbon and UI elements do not.

Yep, thats exactly whats happening. All the time lately. I updated my .NET but that hasn't resolved it. Maybe be the display drivers but unsure why it would cause an issue now - thinking its something that madcap have done with the update to v8.

Any chance your IT department might have updated the drivers automatically or manually without telling you?
