Spacing between bullet and its paragraph

Post by HelenF »

Hi, how do I increase the space between a bullet symbol and the paragraph that it relates to? I've tried all sorts of margin and padding settings but none of them have given me what I want. For example:

* this is the bullet paragraph I get by default

* this is the bullet paragraph I want (with more space)

I'm using Flare 8 to produce PDF output.

Thanks
Helen

Err, the second example should have more space between the bullet and the text. Hope you get my drift...

Your styling should be for the list, not for separate paragraphs. In the style sheet, for example:

Code: Select all

ul
{
	list-style-type: square;
	margin-top: 0px;
	padding-top: 0px;
	padding-left: 15px;
	margin-left: 15px;
}
Try that (our ol padding/margin, on the other hand, is 18px).

Good luck,
Leon

Thanks but that still doesn't work. The bullet character is included inside the 'padded' area, so the space between the bullet character and the text doesn't change.

I don't believe you can change the spacing for HTML lists between the bullet and its text. You could create an image of the bullet with some extra space in the graphic itself and set the list to use that image for the bullet and that might move everything over. (Note that Word output won't recognize the image option for lists.) The other alternative is to not use HTML lists but use a paragraph class an auto-number formats to simulate a list. You then have more control over the styling of the bullet icons.

Thanks Lisa, I'll give those alternatives a whirl when I'm back in the office on Monday.
