Big empty

Post by ddiemetric »

Can someone tell me what the big block of gray space on the Styles window is for? I'm talking about the big empty space between the Edit Style and Create Style buttons and the Available Styles list. To see more of my styles, I continually have to shrink this apparently useless area. Does it have a purpose, besides taking up valuable real estate?
Thanks.

That confused me for a long time too.

It is actually a space that shows you all the local formatting that is applied to a span of text. For example:

Once you have applied the local formatting to get it to look like you want, you can click the Create Style button to make that local formatting into a re-usable style.

Note, that you can also drag that box to make it smaller (if you don't use local formatting, for example):

Does that clear it up for you?

That definitely clears it up. Thanks very much! I couldn't find this in the help anywhere. As you've likely surmised, we don't use much local formatting; everything is in the css. Also, when you work with the markers on, you don't really need that info so much. I just wish that when I adjust the size of the area that it wouldn't reset so that I have to keep resizing it. Either that, or the ability to close it completely would be cool.
Thanks again!!
