Spacing Bug?

Post by rmdavidson »

Has anyone come across Flare locking up and not allowing you to use the spacebar or even the backspace or delete key from time to time? We've been experiencing it in v 7.2 and 8 the last few days. I initially noticed it when inserting a small graphic of an icon into text and it wouldn't let me put a space after it before the following word. Then I've noticed it just in general typing in the editor. I haven't noticed it in source control/code view. This morning I was typing normally and I can't backspace, but I can use the delete key. It comes and goes seemingly randomly. I haven't inserted any graphics into this topic this morning. I'm not sure when all it is doing it to my coworker in version 8.

Thanks,

Robin

Just another undocumented feature...

I've usually experienced it when I've performed multiple Copy/Paste functions (thereby straining Flare's memory, I think). I just Restart my system and that usually clears it up.

Good luck,

Fun. Apparently this one starts showing up about 3 months into using the software then. :P I'm already having to restart all the time to use TFS without going through Flare since that causes too many problems.

Hey,

We're experiencing this as well on two machines, both running Flare 9 and Windows 8 64-bit. Have you been able to glean any insight into this 'undocumented feature'?

Thanks! :flare:

Hello Helen,

Thank you for contacting MadCap Technical Support.

Please note that I have added you to a Bug Report (#56800) with our development team and you will be notified via email if a fix for this is included in a future patch or release version.

We noticed this behavior with machines having .Net 4.5.

The issue described is a bug that affects keyboard functionality because focus gets "stuck" on the ribbon which causes issues when inputting content into the editor.

The current way to resolve this is to use the styles window pane to change any of the styling of the elements or remove .Net 4.5 until we are able to patch the behavior.

Another workaround until a fix is available is to use the Toolbar option instead of the Ribbon. This can be changed by clicking File > Options > Interface > Menu Style > Tool Strip

More information regarding this bug can be found in our forum:

Please reply to this email if there are any other questions regarding this specific issue.

Sincerely,
Eric Shipman

I have .NET4 Windows 7 Flare 8 and I am periodically unable to use backspace or spacebar in the XML editor (thought it was just me!)
I always resorted to switching to the text editor to make my change, where backspace and spacebar were fine.
After getting everything saved and closed, then reopened, the problem generally went away.
