numbered lists, sub headings, continue numbering

Post by lizat »

Dear madcaps,

I want to be able to do this. The boxes only represent the paragraph position t is not what i want in terms of formatting :

So that my list numbering continues even though I have a heading (unnumbered) within the list. How could I do this?

Thank you......................... liz

Setup a global number type and it will do exactly what you want. The Prefix format is:

Gx:

where x is any letter you want. I use L for lists P for paragraphs, etc.

This is covered pretty well in the help by the way. You may want to look there for additional formatting.

Sticking with a simple list, instead of the global numbering prefix previously mentioned, see the Flare help: "Features > Lists > More About Lists > Adding Notes or Comments Between List Items."

Good luck,

Thinking about this a bit more thanks to Leon, I'm not sure I would go with Global numbering since you probably want to have a '1' again. ;)

Use Leon's suggestion instead.

Thought we had a v7 thing going on here.

I can't find" Features > Lists > More About Lists > Adding Notes or Comments Between List Items" in the help. Help in v8 isn't laid out as it is in v7.

It's the same spot in the v8 help -- you just have to open the Flare help to the contents to go through that book path to get to the topic. Or you could search in the Flare help for "make paragraph items". Or you can go to the specific page on MadCap's site at http://webhelp.madcapsoftware.com/flare ... _Items.htm.
