Help! I am pretty sure this one has been asked before since I remember reading about this a long time back. But though, I searched high and low through the forums I cannot find the relevant post. Apologies therefore, for posting this question once again.
I want the breadcrumbs to appear below the Heading 1 and above the topic content. Any pointers on how I can do this?
Thanks in advance..
TeSol
Breadcrumbs below Heading1
Re: Breadcrumbs below Heading1
Insert the Breadcrumbs proxy below the Heading 1 line.

Although Leon is correct, there's a bit more to the answer.
Typically the breadcrumb proxy resides on the master page, which controls the layout of content on every topic in a Help system (unless overridden for particular topics). Most authors put the breadcrumb proxy above the topic body proxy. To the best of my knowledge, there is no way to split the topic body proxy into two pieces so that the breadcrumb proxy can fall in between. And I'm not sure what the result would be of putting the topic body proxy on the master page twice, with the breadcrumb proxy in between, though I presume that the entire contents of a topic would appear twice.
To achieve what you're looking for, I believe you will need to NOT have the breacrumb proxy on the master page, but instead will need to insert it manually, beneath the topmost heading, on each and every topic in your Help system on which you want the breadcrumb links to appear. For ease of authoring, you could create a topic template that has the breadcrumb proxy already in place.
What say the rest of you? Have I got that right?

Re: Breadcrumbs below Heading1
Yeah, I agree, you couldn't have the breadcrumbProxy in the masterpage if you're going to try doing it this way. And theoretically this should work as Nita described.Nita Beck wrote:What say the rest of you? Have I got that right?
That said, I don't know as though I recommend this. It's not standard behavior so it might throw users off. In part because although the breadcrumb imparts some information, it's not critical information, so users can get used to ignoring the breadcrumbs. If you put the breadcrumbs below the heading, I'm afraid your users might get to the point of ignoring the heading, as well, because they'll be used to looking below the breadcrumbs for the important information.

Re: Breadcrumbs below Heading1
Thank you for your replies. Yes, I too don't like the breadcrumbs below the heading...but that's what the customer wants..
Guess I shall add the breadcrumbs in each topic manually. Unless I can convince the customer to let it remain on top where it is meant to be.
Thanks once again.

Re: Breadcrumbs below Heading1
Mention the bit about people ignoring the heading since it's above the breadcrumbs -- that might get their attention.
