Errors when viewing help in IE

Post by RSM »

Hi,

I am having an issue with displaying the webhelp in Internet Explorer. I am using Flare 7. The webhelp works fine in FF and chrome. It also works fine on the Local system in IE also. But when the help is invoked from the application. Blank frames are displayed. everything works fine in FF and chrome. we are weblogic server.

Also i would like to point put that the help was working fine until we moved on to Flare 7 and windows 7. The last output that we generated in Flare 5 and Windows XP worked fine in IE too. But now when we generated the output using Flare 5 and windows 7, it is giving errors.

We are getting MadcapAll.js error when we try to invoke the webhelp from Application.

Message: 'mRootNode' is null or not an object
WebHelp/Content/SkinSupport/MadCapAll.js

Message: 'mRootNode' is null or not an object
WebHelp/Content/SkinSupport/MadCapAll.js

Message: 'documentElement' is null or not an object
WebHelp/Content/SkinSupport/MadCapAll.js

Referring to various posts i have tried the following with no success:
1) MOTW option is not enabled
2) Tried generating the help with default skin
3) Relinked the welcome page
4) Tried generating the output in v5
5) Compatibility mode is not enabled
6) Tried a few Internet option settings too..but mo success

What is going wrong in the Flare 7 output that it is unable to read the data in IE. please bail me out of this situation. I am clueless now on wt needs to be done. How can i fix these issues.

I just checked the Flare KB, and there is no System Requirements document going back to Flare 5.

My guess, however, is that Flare 5 does not support Windows 7 (especially if using IE 9). You could try IE 8 (with Compatibility Mode off); that might work.

Good luck,

i am using IE8. Blank frames are displayed in it. I also tried checking the output on IE9. Same errors. and these outputs were generated using flare 7.

I suggest you
1. search this forum for the string mRootNode and see whether something mentioned in the posts helps and if not
2. contact MC Support (or at least post a bug: https://www.madcapsoftware.com/feedback/bugs.aspx)
