Move the WebHelp logo from the right corner to the Left?

Post by nickatwork »

Hi all,
Our design guys are going through a version of my Help and want to move some stuff.
Is it possible to move the logo from the right to the left? Or even possible to remove acordian titles and replace them with a logo image? We NEED the logo on the left and ideally the acordian labels would sit underneath or we would just remove them altogether.

Ideas?

Thanks,
Nick.

Which output are you wanting to do this for?

I know the logo can be deleted, but am unsure if it can be moved.

I was able to do this for my webhelp in Flare 7.2.1 in a round-about way.

I created the header including my logo where I wanted it and inserted that on the styles tab > frame> toolbar>background image. Don't forget to set your height appropriately.

Here's where it got a little funky. When I removed the Accordion Title (WebHelp Setup > Exclude Accordion Title), the buttons in the toolbar shifted to the left. They appeared right over my logo.

You can fix this is one of two ways:
1. You can keep the Accordion Title and change the font size to 0 (styles>toolbar item>accordion title>Font>fontsize). This is what I did.
2. If you want to keep the Accordion Title, just create your header image with enough space underneath the logo for the title and buttons. Adjust the height of the header to fit.

Hope that helps!

The background image idea sounds great, wish I'd thought of that! Our approach (custom logo control) seems to work OK, although causes a few problems with spacing etc:
1. First, remove the madcap default Logo (set the Logo ToolbarItem 'icon' to None)
2. Add a custom logo (right click ToolbarItem, and click Add Class, and give it a name for example "Logo_YourCompany"). Our custom logo has the image set and has a ControlType: Button.
3. Select the "WebHelp Toolbar" accordion, move your custom icon (Logo_YourCompany) over to Selected and bump it up the list so it occurs first.

If you want a copy of our skin file, I'm happy to send it for you to look at or reuse, flick me a PM

Cheers

Thanks for the ideas guys, it seems like I'm close but not quite.

smkelchner,
Setting the logo as a background image only works if the width is specific right? i.e. 800px or something. I used a single logo but the image just repeats all the way across the toolbar background, which is what I expected, but is there something else that you have done to stop it repeating and control its placing?

Greg,
The single logo works, but are you able to place it to the left? Mine just sits above the topic pane, I cant move it any further left to sit above the TOC. Are you able to position it?

Thanks for the help.

I set the width of the background image wider than the default width of the help window. If my window is set at 800 px, then the image is 1000 px. It took a little trial and error to get the location right, and the background behind the logo is a simple gradient fill. The user can also resize the window a little without causing the repeating.

It looks like this:
(bkgr that can repeat) (logo on bkgr) (bkgr no repeat) (bkgr that can repeat)

I admit that it is not as easily customizable as adding a class.

When you tried to add the class, did you select Exclude Accordion Title on the WebHelp Setup tab? That will move everything else in the toolbar to the left.

aaahhhh bloody IE cache was messing me up.

I think the class option is better for me, users want to be able to resize if need be. So the logo does show, next thing...if you use acordian titles, the width is dynamic, as in resizing the TOC, search etc moves those top buttons with it, need to see if I can sort this one out too, or even if I can elave the titles and shift that logo, reckon I need to go diving into the output code now...

thanks,
Nick.

Hi,

Not sure if this will help. But I had a similar issue. Do look at http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewto ... sol#p78288

Thanks, yeah that's pretty much the same. I do like that as a fix - the only thing is if you move the slider bar between the acordian and content pane the top toolbar doesnt resize with it - if you use acrodian titles it does, but setting an image doesnt seem to allow anything like it. Bit of a shame, but maybe not the end of the world. A potential fix.

Thanks,
Nick.
