Can I isololate the topics related to a TOC?

Post by LindaW »

I'm preparing my files to go to the translator for a quote. My project contains topics that are related to several TOCs. I need to submit my translation project for only one of those TOCs and its related files. I think that I can get the list of files with Analyzer? I can't find that option, though. Is this the best approach? I just want to be sure that all of the files associated with that TOC are translated, and that only those files are translated.

By the way - has anyone found a "best practice" for having Flare files translated? So far, I've found Lingo to be cumbersome - in order to isolate the files to be translated, I would have to create a separate project to send to Lingo, which seems like it would create a maintenance nightmare when I update the associated files. I have also found that translators that don't have MadCap software have trouble with some Flare tags - specifically Condition tags.

This translation project is taking up way too much of my time - time that I should be spending on developing more WebHelp topics. Any suggestions on the best way to handle translations, without causing possible file maintenance problems?
Thanks,
Linda

Open the MySpecificTOC.fltoc (Projects > TOCs) file in Notepad.

Will that help you?

In case anyone else needs it, this is the solution that I got from MadCap support:

You can get a list of files associated with a TOC by generating a report within Flare. You will first need to set the desired TOC as your "Primary" TOC. You can do this by right-clicking on the TOC and selecting "Make Master TOC". Then to generate the report, please see the steps below:

1) In Flare go to Project->Add Report File
2) Select the "Empty Report" from the list of Factory Templates
3) Select a name for your report and click "Add", then "OK"
4) Scroll to the "TOC" section of the report options and select "TOC-Primary Target"
5) Click on "Generate"
6) Once the report is generated, you can scroll through the bottom window of the Report Generator to see the list of items that fit the selection from the report options. Or you can click on "Open in Browser Window" to see the report on your Internet Browser.
