I've noticed that a few topics in my index have a popup associated with them. Some of these index entries have second-level keywords which don't necessarily match what is in the popup. What is the difference? Where do the popups come from?
I use Flare 7.2.
Thanks,
Robin

Re: Index entry popups v second-level/subkeywords
The index popup window occurs whenever an index keyword is assigned to multiple topics. So you might have an index keyword "widgets" (no colon)that is assigned to 2 topics: "About widgets" and "Adding widgets." In this case, clicking the "widgets "main entry in the index would show a popup window listing the topics: About widgets and Adding widgets.
Sub index terms come from compound keywords in a topic, with a colon separating the main term and the sub-term, such as "widgets:about" and "widgets:editing". These are listed as indented index entries under the main term.
For main index entries that have sub-entries, I try to have just one assigned topic. That way users can get right to the main topic for that subject, without the popup window.

Re: Index entry popups v second-level/subkeywords
Thanks, Ginny. I think the index may need an overhaul once I get a chance. There are things like balance and Balance which Flare counts as separate and words with or without an S, etc though not in too many places that I've seen. I wonder if any of it is from being imported from RoboHelp? I'm not sure if I can get away from the keywords being assigned to more than one topic though the way our system is. Maybe just use sub index keywords more to keep it all together.
Thanks again,
Robin

fyi: Flare's Index pane (View > Index window) is a useful place for tweaking keywords: names, plurals, cases, etc. When you rename keywords in the Index window, Flare automatically updates the assigned topics. Much faster than finding and updating keywords in each topic.

Ginny, I use the top part of this pane when adding keywords, but I haven't used the bottom section.GinnyR wrote:fyi: Flare's Index pane (View > Index window) is a useful place for tweaking keywords: names, plurals, cases, etc. When you rename keywords in the Index window, Flare automatically updates the assigned topics.
