Importing Flare into Flare!

Post by michelle_l »

Hello!
I haven't posted here for years - or even had cause to use Flare for several years - but now I'm back in the saddle, so to speak.
I need to import parts of a different Flare project into my current Flare project.
In my mind, this should not be hard.

I tried just dragging from project to project, but the images and links don't hold. I was hoping there was a way to do an actual import and preserve those.

This is Flare into Flare. This should not be difficult.

And I apologize if this is answered somewhere and I missed it. Needless to say when you try to search on "importing a flare project", the forum yells at you that those words are too common. ;-)

Cheers,
Michelle

You need to set up an import .flipmfl file to describe the link.

Assuming you are on Flare8, you do this by choosing Project > Import > Flare project
(You will find guidance in the Help on what the settings mean.)

Having done that the link is permanent, but your import file determines whether you want the linked files brought up to date (a) only when you initiate a reimport of data, or (b) you'd like Flare to check if any of the files has changed and update linked files automatically, if needed, every time you ask it to build something.

Unfortunately, flare-to-flare will import the whole project, unless you do something about it - you can't pick the folders that you want through the flare import project tool.

Also - you can't import folders worth of HTML files through Project --> Import HTML files (there's an enhancement request out there for that).

But - (depending on how big your project is) you could tag the folders that you want/don't want, then use the Import Conditions to filter out which folders you do/don't want.

Be careful to do the same on the resources folder as well to get your images.

Thanks for the help!
Unfortunately, I ended up cutting and pasting, moving some files ... the hard way. ;-)

I'm on Flare 3.1. I use the software about one project every 2 or 3 years, so I'm behind!
