.Net Framework error when binding Flare files with SVN

Post by ucogavin »

Hi,

When I try to bind my Madcap Flare files to SVN (using Tortoise client), I receive a .NET Framework-related error.

See attached screenshots of the .NET Framework-related error, the Tortoise SVN version and the Madcap Flare version that I use.

I have Tortoise SVN 1.7.7.22907 (64-bit) and .NET Framework 4 Client Profile (which came with the latest Windows Updates) installed on my system.

My system runs a Windows 7 Professional 64-bit operating system.

Has any encountered a similar problem?

Appreciate any solutions and workarounds.

Try clicking Continue. When I bind a large project from within Flare, I get these types of messages. I just click Continue and it usually works ok. btw: I don't think TortoiseSVN is involved in that process. Flare is acting as the SVN client.

The alternative is to exit Flare and use TortoiseSVN to upload the Flare project files to source control. To do this: Right-click an empty directory and choose SVN Checkout. This creates a local working copy of whatever is already in the repository. Copy your Flare project files to this directory and SVN Commit. Select the folders you want to keep in the repository and click OK. You don't need the Output, Analyzer, Users folders, for example. Now your Flare project is in the repository. When you open the project in Flare, you will be prompted to create the SourceControl cache. Answer Yes, and you're all set. Fortunately this is a one-time process for each new Flare project.

Thank you for the workarounds, but unfortunately it did not fix the issue.

We were able to checkout a sample directory, copy the Madcap project to this test directory, and svn commit.
However, when we launched Madcap and opened the project, we were not prompted to create a SourceControl cache.

Therefore, the problem remains.

Clicking Continue didn't work either

I have had similar problems with very large projects and was able to *finally* get Flare to bind to SVN by clicking the Continue button every time it threw up the .NET error at me. Eventually, Flare got the projects bound.

I have a working theory, although I've never confirmed this with MadCap: I think Flare got confused because the last file it bound was the .flprj file. My sense was that Flare kept thinking (forgive that I'm anthropomorphizing here) that the project wasn't really a project because the .flprj wasn't yet bound. Eventually, because I kept clicking "Continue," Flare caught up with itself.

RETIRED, but still fond of all the Flare friends I've made. See you around now and then!

The "binding issue" got resolved when we uninstalled the SQL installation associated with MadCap Flare, and rebooted the computer. On reboot, Flare prompted us to install SQL, to which we said "OK". After SQL was reinstalled, we were able to bind Madcap Flare files to SVN successfully.
