Build Not Responding

Post by MaddRedd »

I have a large project which was building fine and then all of a sudden, Flare can't build. The build process gets to "Copying selected files" and then starts displaying the "Not Responding" message in the window header.

To which I now say: "HALP!"

Sometimes if I walk away for 40 minutes, it will build. But it shouldn't take this long. Additionally, one of my colleagues has no problem building the exact same target. I have deleted the Analyzer folder but this doesn't resolve the build issue. I have also disabled Analyzer....soooooo....? Is this point where I re-install? Or is there something else that needs to be fixed?

Thanks in advance.

I really wish someone would reply to this post, because I am experiencing the same problem (even after reinstall) and am also pulling out my hair. Anyone have any tips to save the hair of two fellow Flare-users?

You could zip the project and send it to MadCap with an error report and let them figure it out - but where is the fun in that!

Or you could try and find the error yourself.
First I'd be deleting the Analyzer file. Restarting Analyzer and looking for anything that is dead).
Then I'd split the build into 2 build, build 1 and 2 seperately and see if one or both errors. If one errors, then split that down again and keep doing that until you maybe identify a topic (or something within a topic) that is causing the issue.
If the error happens in both, then I'd create a new build Target with the same properties and see if it builds. Maybe a corrupot target (if that can even happen)
Then I'd change where the target is building to, actual folder location - double check that folder exists, remove special characters and spaces - and check where it is publishing too also and do the same thing.

Basically, go through making changes trying to identify at what point the error is occuring.

Actually, doesn't the "Copying selected files" occur when publishing a target? There was an issue that I had a few months ago where our network engineers had changed the anti-virus on the server to scan each file coming and going, because I publish to these servers it was choking the AV and causing my files not to publish - they had to turn off the AV live scan on a few folders for me for it to work properly...
