How to Remove Left Panel?

Post by erinep23 »

Hi. I am building web-based help. I do not want the screen with them left panel to open when the user intitially opens the help. By left panel, I mean the TOC and the Index and the chapters and all of that stuff. How can I get rid of it? Thanks!

You can turn the TOC panel off in the skin. On the Webhelp setup tab, set "Hide Navigation Pane on startup" - this will initially hide it but will allow the users to display it if needed. Alternatively, you can clear all the options on the General tab so none of the TOC, Index, Search, etc are selected and this will have the same affect (but can't be changed by the user).

Is there a way to simply open the htm file and suppress the TOC at the left without making this a global skin setting? Ideally it would also hide the hyperlink at the top of the page that is automatically generated to show the help on demand.

In effect, want to suppress the javascript that does all this.

I wouldn't think of it as a 'global' setting for your help; it's just the setting for that skin, and you can have multiple skins in an output.
So you could have one skin that hides the left panel, and another skin that doesn't. You can specify which skin to use in the CSH call.

If you open the file directly you will lose the whole skin - the left panel and the toolbar.
In this mode, the link that you saw can be switched on/off using the settings on the skin's WebHelp Setup tab.
