need to edit body proxy

Post by mstevens622 »

I inherited a help system. There is javascript in the body proxy that places the version number and copyright date on the bottom of each topic.

It's set up to call a file with the updated information, and that's fine. However, I would prefer to manage this using a snippet on the Master Page.

I can't find any way to open the body proxy for editing.

I am very new to Flare, so I may not be stating the problem properly. But I have tested it out, and since deleting the body proxy gets rid of the unwanted copyright (along with the body of the topic, of course ;) I believe the problem text is embedded in the body proxy.

Thanks for any advice.

I'd say open your stylesheet in text view and see if the JS is being called from the body tag in there?
Or look through the MadCap | BodyProxy style in the editor and look for anything that stands out compared to a default bodyproxy from a new project.

Unfortunately, I don't see anything unusual in the stylesheet or the body proxy. But thank you for the reply.

Open the masterpage in the Internal Text Editor and see if it was manually added to the <head> or <body> tags.

Nothing obvious there. Other ideas?

Thanks.

You could open the skin file and see if he added it via the JS field in there.

Nothing in the skin, either.

Thanks.

I suppose that the javascript is one that is triggered "onload" and then rewrites the topic content?
In that case that javascript is either inserted into the masterpage or called in the head of the masterpage. And of course it wouldn't work without a body because the content is inserted into the body.

You could get rid of the javascript and simply insert a variable that inserts the build date of the help. That's what we do. But that way you won't get a version number ... for that you need the javascript ...
So maybe you have to change the javascript according to your needs.

I cannot see anything in the masterpage that calls the javascript. That is what I am seeking. I don't want it to automatically generate a date from the build date. I would prefer to just control the content of the footer in a snippet, which works great, except that until I can locate and get rid of the javascript, that would result in double footers, hence my desire to locate where it's being called.

1.
Could also be in your default.htm or default_csh.htm in the program folder ... I don't know which one of them you're using though.
2.
Did you look at the masterpage in text mode?
And do you have templates? - Could be them too.
