I have a Flare 8 project containing the source and targets for multiple PDF files. I want each document's title to appear in the document's footer. To do this I have only used H1 for a document's title on the cover page; all my chapters start with a H2. I've included the variable Heading.Level1 in the footer on my page layouts. So because there is only one H1 in each document (the document title on the cover page) I thought it would appear in the footer on each page.
But when I build a PDF, the H1 is not being displayed in the footer. Instead, each chapter is displaying it's first heading even though it is styled as H2.
Can anyone suggest how I can get the document title into the footer?
Many thanks
Helen
How do I get document title to appear in footer?
Re: How do I get document title to appear in footer?
I'd suggest variables. Create a variable set for each document. Within each variable set, set the Title variable to the document title for the set, then insert the variable into the footer. I'd also suggest using the variable on the cover (and everywhere else the title is used).
Re: How do I get document title to appear in footer?
I'd use the variables, too. The added benefit -- you can have a variable called "docTitle" and in the project's variable set put placeholder text that says "DocTitle" (without quotes). Then in each target, you modify the value of that one variable to what it should say for that output. The placeholder text is easy to spot in the output, so if you create a new output it's easy to see that you forgot to set its docTitle variable.

Thanks. I think Lisa's suggestion will work best for us - then all the documents can continue to share the same variable set and we supply the DocTitle on the target. Excellent idea. Thanks again
