Link to a Glossary

Post by lauraj »

I am documenting a website, and when the user clicks the Help button for a page on the site, we bring up the relevant page of the Flare WebHelp with no navigation pane. I would like to be able to put a link to the (entire) glossary in one of my topics, i.e. "Click here to learn about the terms we're using on this site".

I can create a link that links to an "external file", the file being glossary.htm, and this behaves exactly the way I want it to EXCEPT that when I build the help, I get a warning, "Missing linked source file: ...Content\glossary.htm". OK, I understand this; glossary.htm doesn't exist until it gets created as part of the output. But it's messy. I don't want to have this warning every time I build, forever more.

I tried creating a placeholder "glossary.htm" in Contents, but Flare cleverly named the real glossary "glossary1.htm", so the link went to my placeholder. It was clever of Flare to do that, but...

If I can't solve this, I'll have to implement the glossary in a regular topic file. Not the end of the world, but there oughta be a better way. :) Any suggestions?
