Snippet text and vertical alignment within table cell

Post by kea62 »

I'm using Flare V8 to generate WebHelp output (primary use) and PDF output (secondary). I'm just setting up the PDF output and have noticed some strange behavior of snippets that are inserted in text within table cells. The project includes many snippets for product names. In the WebHelp output, each snippet aligns vertically with the line of text. However, in the PDF output, when the snippet appears in a table cell, the snippet is located higher than the line of text in which it appears.

I'm stumped about how to fix the alignment. I've checked the XML code. I don't have any <p> tags in the <td> sections, and nothing out of the ordinary surrounds the snippet blocks. I've examined the stylesheet settings. Both outputs use the same stylesheet but different mediums, and none of the settings for snippet block or text are different.

Has anyone else seen similar behavior? Any suggestions on where to look next are appreciated!

If the snippet includes a <p> tag and the other cell contents don't, then the alignment may be off due to differing margin settings. Or vice versa -- if all your other table cells contain a <p> tag but the snippet doesn't.

And I think that's causing the problem.
In fact it is more problematic, because the cell contains the td style by default and if you enter text in the cell it still remains the td style, but ...
as soon as you press enter at the and of the line it changes to the p style.
So, the point is: How to set the style in the cell automatically to a style YOU like to use.
Is this an issue for Flare's support?

You can adjust the margins and paddings and line-heights if the paragraph is inside a table cell - just generate a complex selector in the stylesheet:

Code: Select all

td p { margin: ...  }
