HTML Help 64-bit

Post by scottpfen »

Our 64-bit program installations are failing with HTML Help.

When I click the Help menu, I am getting an error message that says in sum "The [program].chm file is not a Windows Help file, or the file is corrupted."

I've seen at least one message pertaining to this, but as of yet I haven't seen any replies.

Does it work on a 32 bit system or any other system? Although most error messages end up being useless or wrong, they sometimes are not. So maybe that file is corrupted, which could have happened when copying it. Check the size of the file against a known good copy. Aside from that, there is no '64 bit help', it is the same 32 bit viewer that then runs on WOW64.

Ramon:

It does indeed work on a 32-bit system.

Copy the file again to the 64 bit system and as always make sure that it is stored locally and not on a network share (although that should then have gotten you a different error). Do you have any other 64 bit systems available for test and if yes, does it fail on all of them? That would tell you if it is just an environmental issue with that one system or something more general. Which 64 bit version of Windows shows the failure?
