Social Media

Post by Dkadilak »

Can anyone tell me how to get a tweeter and linkedin share button added to my Webhelp content? I found the script to add facebook and added it to my masterpage. That appears to be working fine, but nothing I try will add the tweeter and linkedin buttons.
Thanks,
Denise

For Twitter go here: https://twitter.com/about/resources/buttons
Select the button and the settings as desired and then copy and paste the HTML code that gets generated.

For LinkedIn you might want to try these steps:
https://www.yola.com/tutorials/article/ ... ng_content

If that is what you already did and it did not work then I am out of ideas as well. What always will work is to have a URL and then tweak the anchor link to include the applicable image.

The copy paste link and JavaScript from http://twitter.com/about/resources/buttons worked fine in the Master Page in HTML5 when I placed it on a web server. It can't pull the URL if you test locally.

But you can also do it with a toolbar button in the HTML5 skin.
  • Add this to the Toolbar JavaScript:

    Code: Select all

    function tweetTopic()
    {
    window.open("https://twitter.com/intent/tweet?url=" + document.getElementById('topic').contentWindow.location.href, "_blank");
    }
    Adjust "_blank" as necessary for your preferred behavior. I wanted a new tab.
    For more information about that URL, see https://dev.twitter.com/docs/intents.

    From the HTML5 skin editor on Toolbar, add a button. Maybe call it "Tweet."

    Get a copy of this image from Twitter and add it to your project:
    https://dev.twitter.com/sites/default/f ... lue_16.png
    You can see other images available from Twitter here:
    https://dev.twitter.com/docs/image-resources

    From Styles, Toolbar Button > Tweet (or whatever you call it), change the background image to the 16x16 bird you downloaded from Twitter.

    From Styles, UI Text > ToolbarButton.Tweet, change the text to "Tweet" so a tooltip appears when hovering over the button.
If you test it locally, it will open the Twitter page but the link won't be populated in the Tweet. If you place it on a web server, it should work.

I'm curious: What do you want to do that for? Do you expect users to tweet sth like "cool help topic - you must see that too" or "what a rubbish help"?
Or aren't you producing a help but a website?

Maybe the content provided as WebHelp output is not application help. If it is a knowledge base for a services company that would greatly benefit from connecting the KB content to social media then adding the buttons for ease of access makes sense.
