HTML 5 - Including External Resources in search

Post by Feebeegeebee »

Hi,
I'm experimenting with using Flare to create a documentation library for internal company use.
I've got as far as setting up pages for the different doc types, including links to files. I've included the external files in folders in the External Resources pane.

I'm getting 2 issues:
1.) Including masses of external files is slowing everything right down and doing a build of the output took hours.
2.) Many files that I don't want included in the search for the project are included. Some of the external files are part of legacy RoboHelp projects, such as the files used for the RoboHelp index. I tried painstakingly going through those files in the Content Explorer, right-clicking, choosing Properties, disabling the option "Include topic when full-text search database is generated" and hitting OK. However, the option isn't saved - when I go back in and look at the Properties, the setting remains enabled.

Anyone have any suggestions that might help to reduce build time? And am I missing something?
Thanks for any pointers.

I recently experienced something similar. I was setting up a Flare project and wanted to include old Robohelp release notes (previously stored as individual HTML files) in the project. Initally, I imported these files as external resources. I also disabled the "Include topic when full-text search database is generated" option and hit OK, but also found this selection wasn't saved. (I found that no settings changes were saved for these files). The problem I found was that the old Robohelp files were not XML compliant.

Flare doesn't seem to like files with invalid XML - I've crashed it many, many times by having topics that contain invalid XML (imported by the way - not because I'm making mistakes!).

Thank you both for your replies.
That helps a lot, as I thought I was missing something.
The legacy RoboHelp files should soon be replaced with Flare output, so it shouldn't be an issue for too long.

Following on from this, any idea why PDFs that I do want included are not coming up in the search results, when I search for terms that appear in them?
They are included in the external resources and are linked from at least one page in the project.

:?
Thanks,

You'll want to read this Flare help topic for including non-XHTML files in your search:
