WebHelp window size displayed in IE

Post by fchan »

It seemed that IE doesn't respond to my changes in the window size specified in the Size window of the Skin Editor. The "Preview Window Size" is a convenient way to set the window size and placement, but the resulting window the user sees is different. It's annoying to have the IE window so tall that the bottom of it is beyond the physical screen. Do other people have the same experience? What did I overlook?

This could happen for many reasons. If you specified a unit other than pixels, results will vary between different monitors. The user could also have browser settings that ignore some or all of these preferences, or their desktop operating system could use a different layout (taskbar on top, etc.) that changes the apparent position of the help window.

A better way is to specify the window size outside Flare, from the link that opens the help system. In a web application, use the JavaScript window.open function. For CSH calls from a desktop application, have your project's software developer do it -- the method will depend on the language and framework they use.

If you're not embedding the help system inside an application, though, automatically moving and resizing a browser window is often considered more annoying than useful. Most of the time, it's best to just leave "Use Browser Default Size" selected.
