Bookmarks and cross references

Post by benjimenez »

Wanted to share a tip for anyone who didn't already know a better way of doing this: If you ever have to reinsert bookmarks for a lot of figure captions, try editing your figure caption style by setting the heading level property (mc-heading-level) to 8 (for example). When you go to insert a cross reference, all your figure captions show up under Headings :). After you inserted all your cross references, change your figure style mc-heading level to 0 so it doesn't show in your TOC proxy. Your cross references/bookmarks should persist. This worked for my project setup (PDF output).

Curious if anyone found other ways to do this. Hope it helps someone!

I've just posted a related question in the General forums. What I'd really like is to be able to specify a style for a table or figure caption that includes an auto-generated bookmark of a format that I specify. I think this may be rather optimistic, but it would be very useful.

msquared, I agree with that feature. I couldn't find a way to do it though, which is why this "work around" was close enough.

I asked the nice people at MadCap support whether there was a way to specify auto-created bookmarks in Flare as part of the style, and they have raised a feature request on my behalf. You may like to submit a feature request too, to add weight to the cause. :-)

Sorry if I'm way off topic here but I'm new to this. When I use the Search function in my Flare web App, I find the topic and click on it, it takes me to the middle of the page, does anyone know how to correct that?

Hi akohli,

Welcome to the forums and Flare!

You're not exactly off topic, just in the wrong post in the wrong forum. ;-)

I suggest you start a new topic post in the Web Based Output forum here: http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewforum.php?f=9. You'll be more likely to get a prompt answer that way.

Good luck!
