Adding a name tags in Flare v8

Post by TA08 »

Hi,

I would like to add an "a name" tag ie a link from one page to a specific area on another page but cannot seem to see anywhere within the help that does this other then using Bookmarks (which do not work the way I want it too). Ideally I would like to link to an area in a table that is within drop down text and the link be the same name as the destination target rather than the name of the page.

Can anyone please help? beyond frustrated.com

Thanks

A bookmark is an <a name> tag. The contents of the bookmark will be the same as the contents in the tag, so if you have a paragraph inside a table cell and you put the bookmark in the paragraph, then the text in that paragraph will be what's returned in the xref that you point to that bookmark, assuming you select an xref class that includes the option to display the contents. It could display a page number, if you preferred, for print outputs.

If you haven't yet created the bookmark when you go to insert the xref, then Flare will automatically create a bookmark (<a name> tag) at the destination point, but your destination content has to be in a heading tag, I believe, for it to show up in the Insert Cross-Reference screen (or whatever it's called). If the content isn't in a heading tag, then you need to insert a bookmark in the destination first, then insert the xref, otherwise it will use the first heading in the topic.

Thanks for the advice. I did create the Bookmark to the destination target but when linking to the target I selected the the Bookmark and XRef Class for the page (MadCap:xref.xref_Page ) in the Insert Cross Reference screen. I will give it another go and try to use the XRef Class for the MadCap Bookmark (MadCap:xref.Bookmark) instead.
