I copied a TOC to build a derivative manual from an existing one. When I rename the TOC, I get a "Link Update" pop-up window saying that Flare is "Computing dependency set..."
There are only about 25 topics in the manual and I have waited over 30 minutes with no change in status. Flare is appearing to hang. Does anyone else get this? Am I too impatient?
Renaming TOC Hangs
Re: Renaming TOC Hangs
This fixed it. Referenced some notes I had when I had Platinum support.

That process ^^^^^^^ didn't work/hasn't helped. I am having the same issue except I am unable to simply change the name of a topic in my Flare project without this happening to me as well. I have tried 4 or 5 different times and it keeps happening. A real productivity KILLER if you ask me.

Garrett, I can't guarantee that this will solve your problem, but try this: Close Flare and then open the Windows Explorer window where the project is stored. Delete the Analyzer folder, which holds the database of dependencies. Then reopen the project, and Flare will rebuild the Analyzer database.

You could also try deleting everything in your project folder below /Output and /SourceControl (if it exists). Both of these will be regenerated as required. You also have a /Users folder below /Project. Don't delete the folder (although Flare will recreate it if you do), but delete the subfolder with your username that is below it.

Re: Renaming TOC Hangs
I would do the following:
1. Close Flare.
2. Open the \Project\TOcs\ folder in Windows
3. Copy the source TOC and paste it in the same folder.
4. Rename the new TOC to something else.
Re-open Flare. You now have two TOCs with exactly the same content. Now you can edit one of them in Flare.

Re: Renaming TOC Hangs
I want to thank all of you for the suggestions provided. I can't remember which suggestion ended up being the solution to my problem, but it has been fixed! It hasn't happened on any of my newer projects either so I'm not exactly sure what has changed. Thanks again.
Re: Renaming TOC Hangs
Renaming a page layout also hangs. The only way I could do it was to create a copy in Windows, rename and then delete the old one.

Re: Renaming TOC Hangs
I have been experiencing hangs when trying to rename both TOC and topics. I reviewed all the methods others had tried (many thanks for your wisdom). However, after the only one that seemed to work was to:
Close Flare>
Rename the htm topic files in Windows>
Re-open Flare> re-link topic files to the TOC.

Re: Renaming TOC Hangs
It also hangs on me when I try to rename topics, or anything really. or when i delete or move anything. I am told it has to do with the speed of information going across my network (it bottlenecks the speed obviously) But I can rename a topic that has multiple links with no issues, 2 seconds later try to rename a far newer less linked topic and it will hang for 10 minutes or more if I let it... This doesn't sound like a network issue.
So just now I tried to rename a topic a few times, and each time it hung for several minutes so i cancelled it. Then just now I did it and it did it instantly. I doubt network traffic changed so much in the span of 8minutes, but maybe, and a lot of our office is out for a training seminar so we have less traffic than usual..
