Caching of images in Capture / Flare

I have been using Flare and Capture for a few years and always seemed to have a problem when updating images in my project. For example, if I took a screen shot of a program (in another image editor program) and added callouts to that image (using Capture) then retook the screen shot, the image displayed in Flare would be correct but when opened in Capture, the original image would be displayed.

It appears that when editing any images in Capture, a props file is created and unless that file is deleted for the image in question, the original image would always be displayed.

Very useful to know if you use a lot of images in your project and have experienced the same problem.

Thought I would share this knowledge, hope this helps someone .....

I'm not sure why you are modifying an image and then taking a screenshot of the changes.

When you save an image in Capture it is the modified version that is saved, the .props file has the original image plus all the 'stuff' you used to create the final image, allowing you to edit the final if necessary. You should be able to save and insert the final image without any problems...

"I'm not sure why you are modifying an image and then taking a screenshot of the changes." I'm not, as I said in my original post, it's screen shots of programs.

For example, if I took a scren shot of an program and new functionality was added to that interface, I would take a new screen shot to reflect those changes and save the updated image with the same name. It is at that point when opening Capture that the image is not updated unless the props file is deleted.

The original image is stored in the .props file as a "background image". You can replace it with a new image by going to Edit > Replace in Capture v6. This will keep all of the other objects that are in the .props file.

Great tip, but I must be missing something. I don't see Edit > Replace in Capture V6. But there is a File > Replace Background Image. Is that the one you mean?

If you're using Capture v6 in Ribbon mode then it is under the Edit ribbon (Edit > Replace).

If you're in the Tool Strip mode, then it is File > Replace Background Image. Thanks for pointing that out!

Oh yes, that explains it! I dislike the Ribbon so am indeed using the Tool Strip interface.

I used this "replace background image" for the first time today, and it worked great. I hope the original poster tries it out. Maybe the problem will be solved!
