How do I set the Icon for added Favorites?

I would like to use a star icon for a favorite topic, but can't find where to set it. The question mark is confusing to some of our users.

I've poked around quite a bit in the skin, but although I found a number of other icon settings, I can't find this one. I just want to point Flare to the RatingGold100.gif icon, which is in the same folder with all the other default icons; where do I make that change?

There's a couple of options. If you actually want the Flare star topic, then you get that by going to the TOC entry's Properties screen and enabling the "Mark as New" option (I think that's the label).

If you want to use your own custom image, you need to create a TOC class in the skin and specify your image for that class, then in the TOC entry's Properties screen, you select that TOC class.

Thanks for your swift reply. I realize that I didn't show enough context, or I am not understanding your answer. This is the icon on the Favorites panel. Are you saying that this icon is set in the MarkAsNew property for the TocEntry? Would that then make every topic have the star as an icon?

Oh, ok. I missed the "Favorite Topics" heading in the screenshot. If the question mark is confusing to users in the favorites pane then isn't it confusing to them in the TOC pane? The icon used for the topic in the favorites I think is dependent on the appearance of the topic in the TOC, so you can't have one icon used in the TOC and a different one used in the favorites. What might be better is to just changed the topic icon to one that doesn't have the question mark (which would replace it in the TOC, Favorites, etc.).

So you can make your own icon and specify that one in the skin. Make sure you make a hover state of the icon, too.

I don't know if that RatingGold100.gif icon you mentioned has a hover state or not, but if it does, then you can point to those icons in the skin. (Flare will save a copy of those icons in the skin, so if something happens to the original icon, you won't suddenly get the missing graphic icon.)

It isn't related to the TOC icon, and you can't actually change those topic/search icons in the favorites pane (in the skin).

You can only change the icons for the delete topic/search buttons in that pane.

Thanks to both of you. I had already changed the topic icon, but that hadn't changed the Favorites icon, and poking around the skins editor was making me think, since I found ways to change other things in the favorites panel, that the favorites icon couldn't be changed. I'll submit a feature request.

Edit: Yes, users found the question mark in the TOC pane to be confusing, too. They thought it meant the topic was missing. I changed it to the index icon (a single sheet of paper with a folded corner).

Is this what you're after (I just grabbed the first image I came to)? You have to replace the FavoritesTopic.gif with your own (using the same name, of course). Also, the FavoritesSearch.gif if you want to replace the magnifying glass icon. Go to C:\Program Files\MadCap Software\MadCap Flare V8\Flare.app\Resources\WebHelp\Default.flwht\Images.

edit: I should mention this is a global change, i.e., all projects show this icon.

Following up on this many months later...how did you make this a global change so that all projects use this icon?
