Are there issues with storing all the Flare project source files on a network drive?
I have never done this as I have always used some variety of source control, but I have been able to create a project on a shared drive and it seems to work OK. One of our IT guys said he thought he read something in the forums about it not working, but I haven't seen anything. We are not using source control. I am trying to train a new person to work with Flare and we need to share the files for some period of time. Once I leave, they will probably go back to a local project.
Just let me know if there are any issues (other than potential slow response) I should be watching for.

Re: Storing Flare projects on a shared drive
Latency will definitely be a problem, especially when you build the project and/or Analyzer has a go at it. I can't remember if there are any other issues related to having the project files on a network share.
Note that if you're building HTML Help (.chm), you'll either have to copy the output file to your local computer to view it, or take the extra step of publishing the help file after building it, in which case, set the publish scheme to publish to your local computer, if you can (that might be blocked by your IT policies).

Or you use a registry script: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896054 to get rid of that particular setting.LTinker68 wrote:Note that if you're building HTML Help (.chm), you'll either have to copy the output file to your local computer to view it, or take the extra step of publishing the help file after building it, in which case, set the publish scheme to publish to your local computer, if you can (that might be blocked by your IT policies).
BUT: You should ask your sys or network admin first!

Thanks for the replies. I'm aware of the issue with HTML Help, although I'm only building that for a single internal manual.
